A Painting

I dream of a painting . . .

a beautiful white stallion is galloping
the rider is native . . . muscled and handsome
                with flowing hair
      feathers entwined
he beckons from the frame . . . come
then, I am a native girl within
wearing a soft beaded doe skin dress
my hair is black as the night
                 we caress, caress
laying tangled in love
and I trace his battle scars
as he kisses my hair and lips
                       until, until
weeping my loss . . . I stand alone
                     in front of the painting
   in my dream

Beautifully written Constance. The device of being beckoned into the picture is a clever one and reminds me of Woody Allen's 'Purple Rose Of Cairo' (a cinema screen though and not a picture). Through your words here I sense you are the poet, the actress and the director of this scene. I can see it and sense your longing too for it all to be true. Just my take. Cheers - Gary

Gary, thank you so much for the compliment, you are right, I had such a lover and lost him to heaven, perhaps he comes to me through paintings, I know he comes in dreams !

Congratulations Constance. Too bad the rider did not precede the painting!
