Notes About The Poem

A New Year Dream

A New Year Dream

When I was younger and naive,
I fell asleep on New Year’s Eve,
Imagining that when I awakened,
The world would be smitten by love:

With bells ringing and people singing,
Exchanging handshakes, kisses, and hugging,
With sincere intentions for prosperity,
Peaceful coexistence, and a shared destiny.

When morning came, reality took over.
Between the linen, my dream shattered
I felt older and disappointed
That yesterday’s tomorrow was no different.
