Notes About The Poem

Jan. 14, 2026 for Nette Onclaud's Some Kind Of Mystery Poetry Contest

A Mysterious Man

A man walks in – like Heathcliff from the moor.
Intense and smoldering are his dark eyes .
That gaze of his is the perfect lure
to make you fancy yourself as his prize.
Mysterious man with come hither ways
conquers hearts with his eyes of sable.
Is there any woman for whom he stays?
Resist him, dear, if you are able.

However, a lot of people choose wealth before love. You should be proud of your trophy win. Congratulations.

In this case, yes, probably best to avoid the mysterious man and whatever secrets he may have concealed. Congrats on your #1 win, Andrea, with this intriguing rhyme!! Very best, Bartholomew

Ew, we have Heathcliff, Rhett Butler and so many others. LOVE this. I am reminded by the poem that I need to send you the Stuart poem I promised. Nette should inhale this.

Very nice, Andrea. Someone else wrote on Heathcliff, I read somewhere? Or is it the contest prompt, I'll check it.

I think Heathcliff was used once or twice in my clerihew contest recently judged. I loved the look of the actor who played him in the early 70s version movie of the story. He is the epitome of a mysterious man for me.

Unfortunately many look for the riches not the romance. Love this! Love such scenes…make us woman swoon, then we fold into our loved one’s arms.

Thanks. I struggled with it too. I completely ditched the first one I did on A mysterious life.
