A Myopian Future
Laying on a white beach reading you a story The Butterfly’s Wink you eagerly await Far in the future but not far away A butterfly closes its mosaic eyes Asleep upon the sun soaked flower With lovely songs singing angelically Awakened suddenly by a falling soft pedal Driven by the whispering breeze To its amazement now flying above A strangely familiar but beautiful landscape Where once stood tall buildings and small parks Now luxurious meadows and mountains Sweet nectar for as far as you could perceive Then a black screech and a flock that covered the sun The fearful butterfly’s eyes widen at the shimmering dark As a sharp cold talon wraps swiftly around it Jostled by a rain drop the butterfly awakens as the dark cloud passes on Shivering its florid wings in relief it was only a dream Then I hear someone calling my name from away That aroused me from reading this fantasy Sitting up in bed I begin to tell you of this wonderful dream When an ear-piercing ring shatters in my ears Rolling over alone hitting the snooze button late for work I don’t remember dreaming and it is another day Note- Poem is about false awkenings using Irony,Juxtaposition,Imagery,Paradox, Synesthesia
