A Morning Ritual

First early morning romp at three
Across the bed, land on mom’s knee
Mom will not wake, to pillow race
Mom won’t get up, she won’t play chase!

And when mom finally stirs from sleep
It’s off the bed I slowly creep
Mom will not play, which ‘twas my wish
So, I glare ‘till she fills my dish!

And when mom tries to read the mail
I romp and stomp and swish my tail
When play is done, I’ll take a snooze
But I’ll wake up when ere I choose!

For every day, God only knows,
It’s hard to keep mom on her toes!
