A Morning Miracle

After two days of drama
Of pacing up and down
   Looking for her nest
                             Looking for her eggs
                                                       Looking so confused
                                                                                Looking all around

So imagine my pain
Looking out at her again

Just sitting where her eggs once were

I truly felt so sad for her
she was perplexed and puzzled
she was looking very muddled

For she sat just where her nest had been
Looking all around her

I went to bed ~ tears in my heart...

Awakened by the blackbird
his joyous song went on and on
                     As stumbling out of bed
to my balcony I did head
To see her moving bits for nesting
sat amongst it she was resting

and my heartstrings pulled again…

On returning from my walk
taking toast and coffee with me
I sat upon my balcony
for the morning sun was calling
as a brand new day was dawning

           What was that I spied
                     a trick of the light
                                   I cannot believe it
                                              it cannot be right

For there it stood
just by her side
the shiniest
brownest
most precious

                            EGG

                   I jumped for joy
                        I whooped
                            I cried

For this morning’s miracle
I am waxing lyrical...

Written today ~ 26th May 2020
after losing her nest with 3 eggs in the night before it was truly a miracle to see another nest with another egg– gosh my nerves won’t take much more…

Sadly she sat upon this one egg with just a smattering of nesting materials (making a nest is not something she is good at!!) and on Friday morning there was nothing left and she had gone... However about 2 years ago we had a family of 2 chicks that were there until they fledged - it was such a joy to see them, but it seems this was not to be this year. Hope you are enjoying the sunshine dear Jan. With kindest thoughts Ann xx
