A Memory
I look into a mirror
and see that little boy in his warm clothes
He looks out at the road in front of him
A silence rings in his ear
Tears well in his eyes
His dad pulls over, empathy sparse in his heart
Fear pumps through the boy's veins
Cycling endlessly, he wishes for relief
Looks for mercy in his father's eyes
He does not dare speak
He refuses to voice his cries
His head stares down towards wet shadow
Through verbal beating, his head hangs low
I do not wish to dwell on the past
however, I am left with the pain
The shame
The pleasure distracts me, leaves me with gain
