A Matter of Time

The brown of the earth
caked on my hand
filling ridges too
where tools had rested
all morning
waiting forever
for the lunch whistle

In my first decade of work, I was blue-collar, so to speak, 8 out of those 10 years. How about that? Once took a vocational interest survey. My two top occupations: Farmer and Soldier... Poet was probably in the negative numbers... Though teacher was #3 or #4 as I recall. ~ gw
