A Magic Occurs

This day I joined a Parkinson’s choir for we all have this dreaded disease Singing I’m told can strengthen throat muscles Whilst releasing our spirits to soar way up high Even though my voice is not strong When I put it with others a magic occurs Our sounds so inspiring enliven each song Uplifting my soul to a place it belongs The power of voices from deep down inside Singing lyrics so profound brings tears into my eyes So moving so rousing such joy this singing brings For singing takes me to a special place To sing a song with others truly puts a smile upon my face It clears my mind doubts left behind on a wondrous cloud of sound I never want to leave this place nor want to come back down Written 24th July 2019 - after my first visit to the Parkinson’s Choir – I left on cloud nine ready for anything… Contest UN-RHY-ME Sponsor Brian Strand FIRST PLACE

Ann, your gifted pen spills beauty upon the poetic page and my heart’s imagination. I can hear the sweet songs of a choir’s collective voice soaring in magical and moving release uplifting each soul to cloud nine. I don’t blame you for never wanting to leave or come back down. Simply stunning and I share in your elation! Congratulations on your wonderful win in Brian’s contest.. ~Susan

My dear Susan your words have truly lifted me ~ such joy you expressed when reading my poem ~ the same joyous feelings I felt as we sang and my spirit soared to that magical place... thank you my friend and I feel honoured that my words were able to do that. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

Ohhh thank you Caren. We are singing tonight (my first performance!!!) opening with 'Lean on Me' and closing with 'You Raise Me Up' with all proceeds going to Parkinson's UK. I am so excited I can hardly breath, so must calm down before tonight, haha... I have no doubt a poem will follow. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

what a wonderful uplifting poem Ann, I am sure joining the choir will be the best thing you have done since joining soup! I hope it makes a huge difference to your life with support for you in so many ways:-) The lady who introduced me to soup has the illness she was one of the youngest to be diagnosed with it in her 20's I think. hugs jan xx

Yes Jan, you are right about soup, it has enriched my life and I feel the choir will be the same; I felt so good when I came out, as if I was walking on air! We are performing on Saturday at Eastbourne College, where we are singing 'Lean on Me' and 'You Raise Me Up', with the rest of the concert being sung by the amazing music students and proceeds are going to Parkinson's UK. When singing YRMU today tears poured from my eyes as the lyrics felt so relevant and it was so uplifting, so mustn't forget my hanky on Saturday, haha. Kindest thoughts Ann xx
