Notes About The Poem

A Love Not Meant To Be

Dedicated to Guy Loranger, wherever he may be

A love not meant to be is kept alive
by one who still recalls one magic night:
when, a budding rose, she began to thrive,
for a boy just nineteen had put his sight
on her, and Cinderella she became.
He ravished her with his enticing gaze.
Then long sweet kisses lit her soul aflame!
Theirs was a night she’d remember always,
but much too soon, her beautiful new prince
returned to French Quebec, and they lost touch
with one another; she’s not seen him since,
yet no one else had made her feel so much!

The phone calls stopped, and she went far away
to college and was wed. Four years had passed.
One day he called. Whatever could she say
when life for her had been transformed so fast?
He’d looked her up; but it was bittersweet
because she held her firstborn on her knee.

Romance she writes of now cannot compete
with how she felt back then. That girl was me.

Congratulations on sharing the top win, dear poetess, with a lovely poem depicting love lost in the air, but with echoes still vibrating in the sky. Wishing you a pleasant day.

Good day Andrea Have just read all your best poems. Love them all. I have a bias towards some form of rhyme, don' t innerstand all these different forms yet as I've only been part of soup for about a month a lot of years behind you. Blessings Douglas

Good "one who got away" poem...youthful romance seems to trump romance today. It's interesting to wonder if it would have been wonderful, or, if he'd hadn't disappeared to Quebec, and you had got past the exciting romantic part, his feet would be clay.

Yeah. It's better to not know. Always have the fantasy!

A lovely poem from the heart ~ makes me wonder if wisdom is not wasted on the elder... if only we knew then what we know now.

Dear Andrea, Your sonnet carries such tender heartbreak. I admire how you hold the sweetness and the sorrow in perfect balance, letting the past speak without bitterness. A beautifully crafted and deeply human piece. Winter Blessings, Andrea, Daniel

Thanks. Many of my romantic poems are based off my memories of this one guy who I never really got to know because he had to go back to Quebec

So interesting! A lost love, but seems a prince for that moment. Love this, Andrea!

It never had time to become real love but I will never know and it's better to remember it as the dream it seemed
