A Lone Streetlamp

the refrigerator hums
  clocks tick
a lone streetlamp
  sheds it circle of light

snow-muffled steps
  approach, retreat
inside, outside
  the hush of midnight's beat

Scary, how 'time passes on.' It seems to rush faster every year. Makes up for how slow it went when we were in elementary school...

Positively Dickensian. Narrow, cobblestone lanes, and bone-chilling, damp cold air. Brrrrrr.

I am not sure about the second stanza. I see someone coming in but then something happens outside that I am not so sure about. A policeman's area to walk a beat or ride a beat so no longer are they patrolling? Enjoyed reading this one because it left me with questions. Thanks for all the visits to my page. Sara

During day we get tuned to all these faint sounds, though can be scary in the stillness of the night! But the street lamp stays as a beacon. A lovely light verse Gershon

That's it, Valsa! -- a 'beacon.' Couldn't think of the word yesterday. Thanks, gw
