the refrigerator hums clocks tick a lone streetlamp sheds it circle of light snow-muffled steps approach, retreat inside, outside the hush of midnight's beat

Positively Dickensian. Narrow, cobblestone lanes, and bone-chilling, damp cold air. Brrrrrr.

I am not sure about the second stanza. I see someone coming in but then something happens outside that I am not so sure about. A policeman's area to walk a beat or ride a beat so no longer are they patrolling? Enjoyed reading this one because it left me with questions. Thanks for all the visits to my page. Sara

During day we get tuned to all these faint sounds, though can be scary in the stillness of the night! But the street lamp stays as a beacon. A lovely light verse Gershon
