A Little Boy

He wanders the ruins of his village
Searching for anyone at all, any sign of life
Hungry, and shaking, and no where to go
A sinking feeling inside, tells him he has no hope
None at all
He climbs a hill outside his village, staring in disbelief

A butterfly fluttered on by
Her wings spread wide, reflecting the heavens above
She came to rest on the little boys shoulder
The butterfly, the only living thing the little boy could see
He broke down in tears, too much pain to bear
Where oh where is my family? My little sister?

The little boy stumbled to the ground in shock
As he realized the butterfly could speak
She softly murmured, "your sister is now happy and with me"
The butterfly smiles her kindness, and told the little one
Be strong for you have things that must be done on this earth
I shall be your wings, and the rains shall wash away your pain

Still, a young boy and still in shock
What can I do, I suffer so, I am only a child?
The Butterfly replied, And I am only a small butterfly, yet here I am
As I flutter my wings and give hope to lost souls
So shall you speak, with great, strong and wise words
You shall be called the Poet of Peace

Deep inside his despair, he felt a flicker of hope
The butterfly hovered and danced, and so gently kissed his cheek
I give you eternal happiness, and from darkness shall you rise
Your strength shall come from the winds of my wings
Your fortitude of heart will ensure no child suffers as you have
Thus shall your poetic words radiate the warmth of all humanity

A little girl smiled above with such love from heaven

:) Oh, Arthur. This is a lovely write...so timely for people here in my part of the world. The war still rages in neighboring Syria. We have suffered our share and still explosives go off here and there. This is a beautiful poem about the "casualties" of war., making it real for those of us with desensitized hearts. Hugs
