A Life's Autumn

The months have slid over the year,
The sun has mellowed down its gaze,
Life is on its path destined to temperate,
Time is to find a place to rest its craze.

The autumn has entered a stage of grace
With an increase in the activity of the leaves,
Merriment is in the softness of the breeze,
Joy is in the colors awakened by the leaves.

Playing is an orchestra effusive of colors
That is drifting to a climax disconsolate,
Leaves after an epic play of colors sharp
Wear a look sacrificial and crestfallen.

Life is a journey long on paths unknown
With ups and downs and tunnels deep,
Where ends its journey it does not know,
Time is to find a place to rest its limbs.

Leaves are awake but weak are their tissues
Frail and yellow, they know near is the end
And wait for the spurts of wind comforting
That will blow them away from their abode.

Life has lost its path as lost are its hopes,
It has lived its days and gone is the rush,
It has only its memories to live for and wait
For a spurt to drift it away from its misery.

"Life is a journey long on paths unknown With ups and downs and tunnels deep" -- Absolutely! Well said. And we came and leave in unanswerable mystery.
