Notes About The Poem

Holi is a major Indian spring annual festival when people play with different colored powder colors and many dissolved in water and sprayed on participants.  It may have some religious Hindu background, but it comes only in the music played. Only a few pray, emphasis  is on dancing, eating good food and some spiked drinks. Happy Holi.

A Life Filled with Colors

Life is steeped in the color red—
the crimson of a lover’s lips,
the tender beauty of a budding red rose,
the thrill of red blood coursing through the veins,
or the sacred glow of devotion to the Divine.
“Crimson is my Beloved’s hue—
wherever I look, there is red;
I went to behold that redness,
and I myself was dyed in red.”

Blue brings to life the whisper of infinity.
Look at the blue sky, gaze upon the blue sea—
however tangled life’s knots may seem,
in blue one finds the quiet promise of peace.

Yellow fills life with the brightness of joy—
as in Holi when we are bathed in yellow hues,
or in weddings where yellow garments shine with grace.
In a yellow rose lives the hope
that cherished dreams will bloom fulfilled.

Green is the earth’s own living breath,
washing away the weariness of struggle—
stress, sorrow, and restless worry.
The heart finds calm
watching green leaves sway in the wind,
offering renewal, restraint,
and the warmth of fellowship.

Orange awakens strength and spirit within the heart.
Sometimes it recalls the sacrifice of brave patriots,
sometimes it robes the devoted in sacred cloth.
It lends agility to the body
and kindles love for others in the soul.

Indigo carries the quiet aura of authority and honor,
while violet glows with the spirit of devotion.

Blend all these colors together
and they become pure white—
a color filled with innocence, truth, and grace,
the promise of a fresh beginning in life,
where every color surrenders its separate self
and all become one.

Yellow is my favorite of these colors' meanings. I have heard of this joyful holiday of color. I think they even celebrate it in a city in my area. Is it when they throw the colors like paint and people have the colors all over then? I never did it but I had some students who went there and really liked it
