A Lesson From the Auction of Damnation
In the auction of damnation
They sell souls of the damned,
Those who plummet from the summit
On the auction block will land.
If hell is where you’re heading
Prepare for being bought,
But if you desire being buyer
Then this tale is worth your thoughts.
A demon of high status
Dained to bid upon a soul,
Paddle raised with steady gaze
And thus his prize was doled.
In all of the excitement
And contracts being signed
The highest bidder forgot to consider
Just what soul he’d been assigned.
He’d wanted slave or stallion
Mascot, food or pet,
But instead the undead demon
Got a lesson he won’t forget.
You see our sweet souled sinner
Was of the different sort,
The misbegotten he had gotten
Was a friend of heaven’s court.
The dead the demon bid on
Was of the feline kind
Throughout her time, lives being nine
Hell and heaven both housed her mind.
Despite being a menace
As are most cats for sure,
The angels all dangled
Like puppets for her.
When calamity fell her
At the ripe life of nine,
Her final rest was contested
As both sides yelled: “Mine!”
Thus began a court battle
Like had never been seen,
Since Hades was swayed he
Let Eurydice leave.
The demon seemed winner
With contract in hand,
But the religious are litigious
And refused to aband.
The proceedings took hours
And then weeks and months,
The jury’s eyes grew blurry
And they wished to have lunch.
At the point of a standstill
Old Solomon spoke,
Just like the torn newborn
This cat’s owned by both.
Instead of reaching for saw
The argument quelled
The feline roamed freely
Between heaven and hell.
