A Lady and a Stranger: a Bus Station Crush

I’ve never been one to believe in love at first sight Something about this man’s demeanor was kind of tight He caught my attention at the bus station I must be crazy myself I ask, “are you ever too old to fall in love” As I watched him shoving his hand into his glove Those fingers look like they could keep me cozy at night No doubt in my mind he would not hold me right Look at me, as giddy as a school girl in a dorm These embarrassing thoughts are so not my norm Uh oh, he’s walking in my direction I have butterflies, how is this stranger Connected to my affections He walks with that ol’ man been-through-some-things swag Carrying his lunch in a paper brown bag His eyes piercing dark mahogany With a screw face from the cold And yet, so handsome with his grumpy salt and pepper bearded frown He would take me dancing, we would tear up the town I picture us together walking hand and hand down by the creek My heart is pounding, he’s standing right behind me I’m too nervous to speak I hate that I’ve always been a bit meek After my divorce, love I did not care to seek But this attraction to this strange man is making me weak Maybe it will dwindle, who knows He just bumped into me, Oh my god, I’m going to freak Say something, anything, perhaps a little squeak Aw shux, the bus has arrived Guess I'll see him at the bus station next week
