A Good Morning
This is a good morning
For Africa-Americans, a good morning for the world
This is a good morning
For children in Jamaica, a good morning to unfurl
The flag of the motherland
And the flag of the present land
Like a mother and a daughter
Walking to the water hole
Walking home with the cassava tray
Balanced on the brows of the day.
This is a good morning for Oshun to give praise
A good morning for poets to sing lays
A good morning for the eagle to fly
To the shining citadel in a lonely sky.
Tupac, let me tell you, brother
Mayo, let me tell you sister
Thurgood, Martin, Lincoln and Malcom
This is a good morning, for new wisdom
To chant eternal hallelujah.
