A Good Catch
I would say with some confidence
When I am having a good day
That I am a good catch for someone
This is what we say in our family
The women are good catches
But unlike you my love, I am of-this-world
And when you are of-this-world
There is some deep down ugly thinking that can occur
Along with rotten responses to simple things
It just cannot be helped
The very opposite of me – you -
Are clearly not-of-this-world
The sublime of heart
Incapable of ugly thought
Offering the most spontaneous loving and kind responses
For all human situations and conditions
On occasion, and certainly not enough
While we sip espresso together
Before leaving for work
I will remind you that you saved my life by loving me
And then, in a perfect not-of-this-world response
You will tell me so sweetly
That I saved yours.
