Notes About The Poem

A God of Love and Justice

People often wonder...."How long will the evil prosper?" David asked this of God in one of his Psalms. How long will lies be believed? How long will the innocent suffer abuse in silence? How long will murderers go unapprehend while the pure are incarcerated? How long?

These questions sometimes haunt me. I remember that God is a God of love and forgiveness. He gives people chances to repent and to come back to him...to turn away from the life they live that isn't pleasing to Him. I know...I'm in this time. This time of grace. This time where I can still make amends and live.

Though it is comforting to know that God is a God of love...He is also a God of justice. Crime will NOT go unpunished. Intentional hurt will have to be answered for, and truth will be vindicated.

Matthew 12: 36- "But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken." (NIV)

Matthew 12:37
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Ecclesiastes 12:14
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.

Romans 14:12
So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

There is a day of judgment. This is my belief. Nothing will escape the eyes of God. This is true from me as it is for all who are reading this right now. I can't escape the consequences of my actions. No matter how much I believe that my actions are justifiable...there is a truth that God holds me to that I cannot escape. God's love does not negate His justice. In love...he will have to deal with those who have gone against His will and way, against his very character. I know that I have...that I am...that I might continue to....for whatever reasons. However, I do it knowing...one day all will be revealed.

Yes, God is a God of love, but He is also a God of justice. In that, those who have been wronged may find comfort.

I too believe in fair judgment. We expect fair judgment from our mortal courts, so why not from God! Why should I sin, kill, rob, etc and get away with it? Yet, I also have a right for forgiveness. In the end all big sinners and good have the opportunity to get paid equally! (Is that fair?) We find this hard to understand.....only God can manage a difficult juggling act such as this! // paul

My beautiful enchantress you offer hope and dispair with the same words. yet the promise of justice does not right the wrong nor will slow the the swords of the wrongdoers. It is in the fortitude of the human heart, our ability to find compassion and love that enables us to rise above those brutes who do not posess these attributes. I have read from I know not where that in each of us is the capacity to be either angel or demon, it is the task of people like YOU who can invoke such feelings....

Life is difficult, Shane. I know the good I must do, and don't! :( There is no easy answer. In the book of James we read that if we know what is good and don't do it...that is also sinning. So, it's not just doing what is contrary to God's will, but it isn't do what is according to his will. I know!!! I'm struggling at the moment, but I never doubt His love for me. I know...that if I never make it to heaven, it won't be because His love isn't sufficient, but because my heart is too rebellious. I wasn't always this way. Thanks for the visit and for the kind and loving words. They mean a great deal to me. Hugs

avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Romans 12::19 I believe it is hard not to want to strike back, take things into our own hands . . . until judgment day -- I agree with Casarah -- we need to seek justice and love. I am glad you posted this piece -- it needed to be said. Hugs Little One

Thanks, David. Sometimes we get so carried away with the love, we forget the justice. People who have been wronged...who have been lied to....who have been abused....who many never see the crime that has so hurt them punished, can be assured that ONE day...restitution will come. It also makes us aware of how we live our lives. It's a wake up call...we either chose to listen or not. Thanks for the visit, my dear. Always a pleasure....HUGS

Yes there must be a price paid for our sins, thankfully the price has been paid in full. Those who accept this precious gift will not be alone on the Judgement day. Great message here Eileen!

One drop of blood....Ray Boltz. Watch the video on youtube. POWERFUL. All it takes is one drop of His blood to tip the scale in our favor...all the past erased....and the sins....gone!!! Redeemed. How lovely is that, Richard. Doesn't that make Jesus so amazing? Who else was willing to die to set us free? Who else forgives even though with each sin it's like we are nailing Him to the cross...again. I find no other religious leader making that kind of sacrifice...and that's why He is Lord of all.
