A Go Between
A a go-between street urchins and the coy,
in desperation to survive,
after wasted years at a University.
As the Job of my envy delayed
A go between
on Lagos streets where mafias reign,
From Oshodi to Mushin
Ikorodu to Epe,
Badagray to Ajegunle
I roam and thought i had a Job.
A go between,
negotiating with criminals
because there was no government
a “community liaison officer”
begging criminals to let me in,
as Police are busy collecting bribes
A go between
At Fadeyi, where violence became a murder
Mandated to ensure peace
where engineers could not go
A go between
At Badagry where a local chief used his charm
to harm me for more money
The money for the development of his community
A go between
At Ikorodu among gun wielding marauders
Youths whose destinies are kept on hold
surviving through creed of crimes
A go between
with countless encounters
at Surulere, Ilasa, Isolo, Ijegun
where mafia control the streets
as Police backed out in Fear
A go between
On Lagos Island
the whole of Lagos a den of crime
where government is a joke
