A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Bar-B-Que

One hot summer day long ago,
My hubby and I thought we'd go
 to barbecue we
 accepted with glee
by newlyweds, we got to know.

I said we'd bring baked pork and beans,
A salad of mixed garden greens,
 And also, we'd take
 A chocolate cake
Plus six-pack of beer, by all means.

Time came in the blink of an eye.
We packed up our picnic supply.
 Arrived at their house,
 Just me and my spouse,
The only ones who had come by.

 We walked to the back of the yard;
And passed their guard dog with regard.
 They were so surprised
 Upset, they chastised,
"Oh no, you have caught us off guard!"

You see- in their pool, they were found
 In 'birthday suits' splashing around.
"The picnic's next week
 They yelled with a shriek!"
 Embarrassed, we ran homeward bound!

I'm not one to assume a write is NOT fiction, but funny as this is as fiction, I have to admit that it is even funnier to imagine as an actual event. If true, I cannot imagine how y'all talked your way backwards towards the door. I am laughing because your limerick brought life to such a humorous 'imagining' in my mind's eye! Again, if true, I think I would have attempted humor. Either way, this is an entertaining, winning poem. CayCay

Thanks, CayCay...yes...fiction. Couldn't think of anything 'real' that would have an impact. I am pleased if it made you smile a bit. And again, thank you for the visit and welcomed comments. Hugs, Sandra
