A Frail Friend
Little did I know as I baked my afternoon cherry pie
That I would spy a tiny little mouse lazying around the window seal
He was tiny and gray peculiar I'd say.
I watched his nose dart swiftly in search of a meal.
I was fascinated that such a tiny creature could run so fast
His legs carried him swiftly down the ledge and onto the ground
His little tail behind him flew past
I leaned over and heard a squeaky sound.
I jarred the window open quickly and listened for the noise I had heard
I heard it not once but twice a little 'squeak squeak' then it went quite
I worried to myself as I baked my pie that the mouse would be lunch for a bird.
I was scared he would become part of a large animals diet.
I shut the window and returned to my pie
I wondered if I would see more of my visitor after I left him a snack
I searched through the refrigerator practically playing I spy.
Aah Ha a treat for my friend, a good old piece of Colby Jack.
