A Four Year Old On Christmas Eve

It was Christmas Eve, the Christmas tree was aglow With fairy lights and Christmas decorations, Our four year old suddenly said Mommy, Why don’t we have snow, Only seen pictures of Santa with lots of his elf relations And Rudolph who loves the snow, so how does Santa Come to us, where it is so hot and we have to keep cool, By splashing all day in our pool? Do you think Santa will remember I want a Panda Bear and what about my Nursery rhyme book, My old one has a torn cover, don’t worry darling, He has your letter, you also mentioned that you want to look Like Superman, I gave him a big hug, my sparkling starling! Santa remembers every child I explained, Our son was so excited his concentration span, that of An excited four year old child, what smells so yummy Mommy? Jam tarts and chocolate biscuits! He let out a giggle I remember last year, Santa loved your jam tarts, He really has such a fat tummy, How with such a fat tummy does he wiggle and jiggle Out of the chimney, last year he finished every jam tart, And he even left a piece of his beard behind on the mug, And his boots had snow, so he left footprints on the floor, Right from the front door! How does he do it all in one night, what time does he start, He came to my side of the breakfast nook and gave me a hug. Tommy’s daddy has no job, so I asked Santa to bring him a kite I hope he does, what time it is mummy. Almost time for bed, It’s late. Next year I’ll be five, I’ll ask Santa for a bike. I am so excited, how will I sleep, I’ll close my eyes tight he said, Our youngster was exhausted from all the excitement and fell asleep This was our cue, we put his presents under the brightly lit tree, And had another quick peep, to make sure he was fast asleep. In the sky that night, was one very bright star, Which I am sure, could seen by all, whether near or far. We put on the Christmas carols, and sang softly along, Counting our blessings and praying they lasted our whole life long.

Your 4 year old inquisitive child probably is a copy of so many children who find the excitement of Christmas too much to cope with:) good thing they finally fall asleep, otherwise Santa would have a problem delivering gifts unobserved:) ~ Warm regards & Hugs // paul

He sure would Paul my friend. Ricky found out there was no Santa in Grade one on the first day of school and he couldn't wait to come home to have a good cry - he was seven. Still we did all have fun with our children during their Santa Clause era. A great comment - hope your Christmas was awesome and blessed and hope 2021 brings us all the peace and calm that our hearts desire. warm regards and hugs,' Jennifer.

Hello Jennifer … it’s a very exciting time for children as you wrote in your fine Christmas eve verse. A friend of ours put horse droppings on the back lawn and the kids were told they were from Santa’s reindeer - thanks again Jennifer - Lindsay

that is so different and thoughtful, I'm sure the children loved it. I used to stick some cotton wool on a half finished mug of cocoa, Ricky didn't want me to wash the mug, however, eventually after a couple of weeks i had to sneak it of his room. Lovely comment Lindsay. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Jennifer, this is a lovely story about your little boy's concern for Santa. How nice that he asked for a kite for his friend! Children ask so many questions about Santa; I have no idea how I would respond. Really enjoyed this write, Hon. Sorry I've been so busy hosting a contest that I'm late in getting back to people. Have a wonderful holiday season. Your boy sounds sweet and special! Hugs, Carolyn

Children are so excited for Christmas morning, it is all they, speak, eat, dream and talk about, yet as much as they want to stay awake and take a secret look at Santa, they are so exhausted on Christmas Eve that come bed time they rebel a little but fall asleep while trying not to! A wonderful comment thank you Joseph. May 2021 be a year of peace and change going forward. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

oh to be under the age of 5 again and wishing for this magical night. It has become so ordinary in my life now. Even the grandkids are teens so they want NO gifts, only money. Money money. It's no fun opening gifts anymore. Very well done, Jennifer.

No it can never be the same, but what makes it good is that we have our wonderful hubby's who show us love and understanding. Our children too, as they get older they become wiser, more loving and more supportive. Thank you for a lovely comment Andrea. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

So endearing to hear your young boy's excitement about Christmas told in your signature heartwarming style, dear Jenny. The innocence and enthusiasm of youth was captured so elegantly in the tender dialogue between mother and son. My daughter used to have so much excitement built up about Christmas morning that she didn't sleep and often woke up with a tummy ache from all the anticipation! Those were sweet, sweet days, thanks for the nostalgic memories. Love your new avatar! Hugs ~ John

Thanks for a wonderful comment, as always my dear friend. Your daughter and my son had almost identical upbringings, I have understood this from many of your or my comments or poems. Lovely children, who will always remain children for us, no matter what their age. Slowly slowly however, we are moving in the direction of being their children! Hugs and blessings John, Jennifer.

You are in Malta, right Victor, of course a very hot country no snow, but then we don't have all that mess to clean up as it melts! Thanks Victor. Hugs and Blessings,

Thanks Alexis my friend. I just wonder what is going to happen to us tonight, people are not listening, no masks, no distancing, going on holidays and bringing back the virus, the situation worldwide is frightening, and to think the new variant of Covid came from South Africa. God help us all. We must believe better times will come sooner than later. Hugs and blessings Alexis, Jennifer.
