A Four Year Old On Christmas Eve
It was Christmas Eve, the Christmas tree was aglow
With fairy lights and Christmas decorations,
Our four year old suddenly said Mommy,
Why don’t we have snow,
Only seen pictures of Santa with lots of his elf relations
And Rudolph who loves the snow, so how does Santa
Come to us, where it is so hot and we have to keep cool,
By splashing all day in our pool?
Do you think Santa will remember I want a Panda
Bear and what about my Nursery rhyme book,
My old one has a torn cover, don’t worry darling,
He has your letter, you also mentioned that you want to look
Like Superman, I gave him a big hug, my sparkling starling!
Santa remembers every child I explained,
Our son was so excited his concentration span, that of
An excited four year old child, what smells so yummy
Mommy? Jam tarts and chocolate biscuits! He let out a giggle
I remember last year, Santa loved your jam tarts,
He really has such a fat tummy,
How with such a fat tummy does he wiggle and jiggle
Out of the chimney, last year he finished every jam tart,
And he even left a piece of his beard behind on the mug,
And his boots had snow, so he left footprints on the floor,
Right from the front door!
How does he do it all in one night, what time does he start,
He came to my side of the breakfast nook and gave me a hug.
Tommy’s daddy has no job, so I asked Santa to bring him a kite
I hope he does, what time it is mummy. Almost time for bed,
It’s late. Next year I’ll be five, I’ll ask Santa for a bike.
I am so excited, how will I sleep, I’ll close my eyes tight he said,
Our youngster was exhausted from all the excitement and fell asleep
This was our cue, we put his presents under the brightly lit tree,
And had another quick peep, to make sure he was fast asleep.
In the sky that night, was one very bright star,
Which I am sure, could seen by all, whether near or far.
We put on the Christmas carols, and sang softly along,
Counting our blessings and praying they lasted our whole life long.
