A Fleeting Moment

[This poem appeared in original form in Christian Century (85: 133) , October 23,1968.  It was my first published poem.  Reprinted in Ashes on the Snow, L. Milton Hankins, Createspace, 2010.]

I cannot thank in past tense- knowing care has not ceased that this moment is not leased But granted freely to me. A fleeting moment already gone must be in my thanksgiving consumed, unmindful, in living.
