Notes About The Poem

This year, 'Shavuos' begins Tuesday night and extends through Thursday night, about 49 hours. All 'work' is set aside for the Festival. So, see you Thursday night late or Friday. Blessings and bounty, Gershon

A Festival of Names

  Pentecost
    Festival of First Firsts
The Day of the Giving of the Torah
         The Culmination of the Passover
            The Season of our Rejoicing...

The Festival of ‘Shavuos’ has many names
Keeping track of them all is a fun game
Shavuos itself means ‘Weeks’ and also ‘Oaths’
Israel counts 49 days – Seven Weeks from Passover to Pentecost

The ‘Oath’ stands for the Oath of Marriage
For on Shavuos, Heaven came down to Earth
  God married Israel, His bride
The Torah, their marriage document, their guide for Life

Ever since then, the task of Israel
    to reunite Heaven and Earth
And thereby, to the Messianic Era
    give long-awaited birth

I am delighted to hear that explained from a Jewish point of view. I have been told and read about that in the Bible but of course, not completely understanding it from the Jewish point of view. I believe that the Messianic Era is going to be ushered in soon, but of course, no one knows the day or hour only God. Everything will be perfect once again, the earth healed, mankind and nature healed and there will be peace. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K

Thank you for this history of Israel. It seems awe inspiring, but I've never been there.

There's 'something in the air there,' as they say about Israel --- the land where Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob walked, not to mention Joshua, King David, King Solomon, and all the rest... If you can go on a good tour, Hilda, I highly recommend it. Good luck! :) Gershon
