A FATHER'S REGRET

How ironic life can be The one once deem bright light now dim Casting shadows of regret A good doctor he wanted, a drunk he begets. The father wails in silent pain Watching his only son with disdain Grieving the choices that brought him here As the son inhales another cloud of fear. The father questions himself Why didn’t he invest in his own wealth? Enjoy a well-earned feast, travel the world Instead of pinning his hopes on his son’s word. He had dreamed the son would be his savior The shoulder to lean on, his final favor But now, as his strength fades away He sees those dreams crumble, day by day. The father had hoped The son will be his saviour The soldier he'll learn on When all his physicality is gone.
