A Dolphin At Heart
He wore a dolphin on his navel a ruby red
body in spiced salty ocean of love cast in silver
lining of passion now tarnished from heavy wear
It used to be their anchor a pointer to merging
waters exalting in repose and crescendo of souls
then life tore into the union in slippery distraction
The centre changed his belly button festered
when she had rubbed his skin the wrongful way
the sea turned shark infested blood blue tides
Hurt he survived went for her soft underbelly
and yet there loomed the fishing lacerated chords
no solace to whither in a tin of tuna he resolved
‘My navel my ruby and silver and I am still a dolphin
at heart and reason’ stronger than the teeth of time
he splashes in cleansed tears and swims afresh anew
