A Dissing of Shakespeare

Today there's a dissing of Shakespeare His penning's dismissed as old-hat Take time to get know him -- He's wittier than Dr. Seuss' Cat Many point to the Merchant of Venice To prove he was anti-Semitic Read Shylock's defense of his profession It's magnificent, Biblically prophetic Shakespeare knew the Prince of Denmark Julius Caesar Antony & Cleopatra too He described the events of millenia Pin-point penned every plot, every coup Yet today there's a dissing of Shakespeare And the nodding world sheds nary a tear

One of my favorite lines of his is from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream: 'Lord, what fools these mortals be!' I agree, there is much relevancy in his works even today!

Yes, indeed, 'All the world's a stage, and we but players thereon!' Thanks so much for the relevant quote... As I 'shuffle off this mortal coil.' (LOL). Warm wishes, Gershon

I was always the weirdo at my school; I loved Shakespeare; couldn't get enough and now I own so many dog-eared volumes that I look around and ask myself, wouldn't one big volume have been fine? Probably not as I carried one of his plays everywhere, reading. Well done.

Thank you for your spirited comment, M.L... Interestingly (perhaps) I didn't like Shakespeare in high school, but I came to appreciate him in college and to stand in awe of him as a teacher. So, Cheers from a 'fellow weirdo,' ~ Gershon

The nodding world sheds a tear for nothing important if you ask me. I want to use "nodding world" in a poem now but not without full permission from the great one who penned it first.

Well,...…... as this poem goes thudding into the night... All I can say is that I am a big fan of Shakespeare, Dr. Seuss, and Jan Allison---not necessarily in that order!!! Smiles, Gershon
