A Dimmed Sun

I got used to everyday feeling good
I ran out of words in my book
Then the book started to burn
And new pages started to turn
Scrambling, I tried to reverse
But I couldn't stop the adverse
Days turned into night
No sun was insight
My chest felt tight again
Just when my pain was at an end
Life takes a different trend

A powerful, compact free-verse piece that captures the shock of emotional reversal with striking clarity. The burning book and turning pages create an especially effective image of a life suddenly moving beyond one’s control, while the dimming of daylight mirrors the return of pain. The plain, direct language makes its sense of loss and breathless confusion feel immediate and sincere.
