Notes About The Poem

In the morning, I cleaned up the mess, secured the tree, and redecorated it all over again. Because I love Christmas.

A Different Christmas

I want to-
get rid of christmas materialism
sick of it and hate it
so I have ideas
for an alternative festive season

(not saying I do not respect the religious day)

lets change it revise it make it new

we all like gifts but
how about we don't buy new
but do a thing exchange instead
bring things you no longer want
and exchange them for other things
other things people brought to exchange

lets each bring christmas baskets to give
the poor a basket each made
filled with homemade things like cookies
jam or second hand things like
warm socks, mittens, hats and scarfs
(well because I am in Canada)
just use some imagination . . .
we will take a walk and give them out later

how about decorating
all together as a group the tree
with lights and balls and sparkling tinsel
have you heard some people are hanging
their tree from the ceiling
(make sure you have the proper hook)
but I think I will go traditional there
and don't stop
there is a whole room house to go . . . .

have each write down a christmas memory
and each share it with the group aloud

have a nice meal a pot luck
and call it "The Save A Turkey Meal"
ask each person to bring a non-traditional
christmas dish I am so sick of the traditional

lets change it revise it make it new

have a christmas song sing-a-long
there are some great songs non religious
have a competition

well those are-
my ideas so far for my alternative christmas
I am sure I will think of more
before the 25th

and talking about the 25th
why not have it on another day . . . .

BW, a cute and rather humorous look at the holiday. I like some of your ideas.

Yes its got totally out of hand and so much materialism and the real meaning is fast disappearing in many households. let's abolish it all together Constance - bah humbug, it gets earlier and earlier in the shops and folks already have their trees up and lights that could power the national grid:-) hugs jan xx
