A Cup Runneth Over

A Cup Runneth Over His cup runneth over, yet he craves more As flights of hubris on wings of greed soar, Rich is the life of caviar and champagne, Where ruthlessness wins his races in fast-lane And nightmares roil semblance of sane; His cup runneth over, yet he fills again. Some sans much, assert they have enough, Strengthened by love when times are rough; Not so for the man, whose soul preens in vain, When arrogance of ego commands his terrain As flights of hubris on wings of greed soar; His cup runneth over, yet he craves more. Dreams he dreamt once, vacant still remain, Benevolence of love never could he attain, For illusory is glitter spurious gems feign And love is just a mirage phony hearts reign Whose rhythm never attains lyrical refrain; His cup runneth over, yet he fills again. Void of nothingness is driving him insane While haughtiness tallies his ill-gotten gain, Detesting ruthlessly woes of others’ pain, Mocking their misery in contemptuous disdain As flights of hubris on wings of greed soar; His cup runneth over, yet he craves more. Hi Vijay I thoroughly enjoyed this poem as i find that the richer people are, and greedy for still more, the humanity in that person is almost zero, their ego insatiable The contented crowd are human beings. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Vijay, you have so clearly and descriptively contrasted greedy, miserable, people who always want MORE with those who are satisfied and grateful for the little they have. Excellent! Janice

Vijay to never be satisfied and wanting more, paints a larger picture of who this person is. Their Priorities of self aggrandizement, and selfish greed, will someday be worthless and futile. Their God is possessions. In the end they will travel through the wide path of damnation. Your entry is one that I would surmise to be up in placement my friend. We will see. God bless you...

Must a person never be satisfied that he always wants more? And at dead man's end what will he take wit him? Why can't we realize that dust we were and dust we'll end. An excellent poem on man's frailty. So well poetically written. Can't see this but an absolute winner.

You ask all the right questions, Victor. Greed is a big motivator for some. Much appreciate your kind remarks. Many thanks.

Greed and the desire to amass more and more makes a person eternally thirsting. Even if his cup is running over, he feels his mouth is parched. He can only see his cup overflowing, but cannot relish the contents ! There is 'not enough to satisfy his greed'..... ! This overriding avarice for wealth can land him in the pits of ruin. When one reads this beautiful poem written with great panache, one is reminded of the unworthiness of hoarding material wealth....! Win big dear friend !

The title drew me in, but I wasn't expecting these thoughts within. So true, you reap what you sow. It is sad that many behave in this way. Your words are deep and powerful, Vijay. My best to you. ~ Brandy

Well written Vijay, for many the full cup is not enough and they're never satisfied, why have one car when you can have five, but the good thing is, they're not taking it with them when their times up. Best of luck in the contest. Tom

I experience a sense of healing and amazement whenever I come across one of your newly published poems, Vijay. This beautiful poetry is not an exception to the rule. The key to finding fulfillment in life is not in amassing an excessive amount of wealth, but rather in acquiring just the right amount for one's needs. Because of your extensive vocabulary and the skillful way you weave the words together, your poetry is, without a doubt, the very finest that has ever been written today. WIN BIG
