a crumpled thought

A crumpled thought Unfolded Asking questions I felt their sting “I came to you” “you tossed me out” “why will you not listen” I watched it struggle To un-crumple itself Smooth its rejection Stiffen its resolve. My cold coffee Took its side Whispered from the cup “you do that a lot” “dismiss thought’s thoughts” An oily film clung to my throat As I sat Pondering A crumpled thought

Here are layers of personification, the thought has a mind of it's own. And then the opposite, but I don't know the name for it- people-stuff becoming metaphorical objects (the thought as crumpled paper). This is indeed the dance thoughts play, contradictions and paradox. Fave. J :)

I feel good reading this poem. Poems, not written, come in tossed, crumpled, and set aside. This verse spoke to me as i am a great repurposer.

In my days of writing with pen and pad, there would've been an army of disgruntled, crumpled thoughts warring with me for the chance to survive as crumpled sheets of paper with scrawlings that I didn't feel worthy to complete in poetic form. Dare we judge our own thoughts? Who but us is qualified to do so?

Love it! Those thoughts will sit on the page while the coffee gets cold as ice. We close the window, circle back, can we bring that thought back to or just to life; oh yeah and then we start thinking about what else we want to do…crumple…crumple. Hugs

I both love and hate a bit of inner brain chatter - very well done John. Shame it wasn't for my contest :)
