A Common Thief

"Hello?” Came a voice from the other side of the door
She paused, knocked again and then once more.
She turned the knob, walked inside and went to the fridge.
She opened it and began to pillage
Her head disappeared, “There’s juice in here? Surprise, surprise!”.
She chugged down half in only a few tries.
“This house is a perfect place for thieves,” She looked around.
She glanced upstairs, gave a sigh and then frowned.
He watched from the second floor, his door open a crack
He closed the door and then opened it back.
He’d heard her knock on the door and he’d seen her enter.
He wondered who or what had sent her.
The doorway was gripped tightly with his irritation
The juice was for later; now there was none!
He peered through the crack again, she was really cute
He locked his door, she still needed a boot.
She was almost halfway up the stairs then heard her phone
“Hello?” She said quietly in a soft tone.
“Someone left the door unlocked, I couldn’t believe it
Nobody’s here, I’ll be out in a bit.
Give me a chance to do this, don’t be so impatient!”
She closed her phone, cutting off a comment.
She turned the knob on the first door but it wouldn’t budge.
“Just great, I can’t find a bathroom, oh fudge!”
The doorknob turned slightly; his body froze in the air
It rattled again and he grabbed a chair.
He dropped it, what good would it do if she had a gun?
He sighed, who needs all this aggravation?
She was talking to someone on her cell phone, damn it!
He wished he could tell her where to cram it!
Who was she? Some common thief? oh please let her just leave!
He opened his window with a huge heave.
“No, the upstairs door is locked. Why? I haven’t a clue.
I tried it twice, the door is stuck like glue.
If you’re so smart come in and give it a try yourself.”
She sighed, hung up the phone and searched a shelf
The drawers were empty and then she spied a little note
‘The downstairs bath is in the back’, they’d wrote.
“Oh great, this is the last time I rent from strangers,”
She headed to the back, grabbing her purse.

She heard a huge cracking noise and a loud thud outside.
He still held the tree branch but not his pride
She ran out the door and found him sprawled flat on the grass.
He said, “Who are you, why do you trespass?”
She showed him her house key and looked up at his window.
He grinned at her key, “Well, what do you know!”
A bag of stolen loot had preceded his down fall
Down the road came the police from her call.
