Quintain/English
An English Quintain poem is (five line stanzas with a rhyming pattern of a,b,a,b,b ), there is no specific meter or length of line.
Autumn hosts a carnival of color
celebrating the bounty of summer.
But Jack Frost, Autumn's gentlemen caller,
oft dances to a different drummer
endorsing winter as the newcomer.
A phantasmagorical season
Autumn's a color extravaganza.
And that above all else is the reason
I feel it's a bonafide bonanza
of beauty, like a poetic stanza.
Trees turn scarlet and cerise overnight
as the fairies set canopies afire.
And though fledgling songbirds have taken flight
there is still so much beauty to admire
that Autumn never ceases to inspire.
The air gets chilly, each breath crisp and clean,
and underfoot, leaves make a crackling sound.
Crimsons and golds replacing Summer's green
form mosaics, as they get blown around
by brisk breezes and scattered on the ground.
Orange pumpkins ripen in October
adding anticipation to the air.
And yet, slumping scarecrows seem so sober
witnessing jack-o'-lanterns craved to scare
off evil, in a Halloween nightmare.
