A Cold Night

A woman stares through the window and shivers The ice is painted over all the land and rivers Nothing is the same now the winter has arrived She sits and thinks of past winters she survived Icy frosted patterns are gathering together This is the beginning of the wintery weather Through the window she see’s a blanket of white It looks like the earth has died of fright Who is this woman with the haunting eyes? Looking out towards the earth as it dies She is cold and lonely she stares at the frost Saddened by the cold as the summer is lost

There is a bittersweet quality to this provocative write, Pamela. I could not help but think of all the seniors who live alone and stare out the window as seasons pass, longing for companionship. Haunting and heartwrenching imagery. Beautiful writing! Love, Carolyn
