A Cheerful, Optimistic Fellow

Off to college he'd gone a cheerful, optimistic fellow laidback, easygoing, mellow not one to boom or to bellow But the folks there taught him to be ashamed of his privilege That due to his fair white skin the college had let him in They told him that his part-time job served the corrupt capitalist mob that he should get out there and protest with all the strength he possessed So he turned against the 'system' rejected those who would kiss him learned to make a Molotov cocktail targeted a cop; now he's in jail Yes, off to college he'd gone a cheerful, optimistic fellow He'll return home a bitter young man robbed of hope ~ no future, no plan

How sad. I bet this happens more than we would think. People do change in college, but this seems to be the direction in which they are headed, especially now with all the protests. A truly excellent poem for my faves. Hugs, Carolyn

Too many kids today still (!) don't have much of a direction when they go off to college! Amazing to me, as the world is changing so fast. How can the West compete with China, Russia, et al., with all these lazy-ass college kids drifting through college, partying hearty -- or getting transformed into hollow socialists?

Wow! Powerful truth; people need to really pay attention to what their children are being taught on all levels of education. Not only body cameras on cops, but in every class room. Would be easy to do and inexpensive. What say you, Teacher's Union?

Ha, ha! Teacher's Unions would love to be free of any and all accountability, so their members can do an even worse job than they've been doing --- and still collect their pot-of-gold pensions. :) gw

Go to college at your own risk these days -- esp. if you're not in a STEM major!

The school's job used to be prepare kids for productive lives in society. Now it seems that educators want to prepare their charges to destroy society as we know it! ;) gw
