I will turn back the pages of my life, to when I was a little girl at school; it was an old catholic school run by nuns, gosh, they could be so mean and so nasty! Once a week they told us all to ponder, our SINS- said put your heads on your desk; and contemplate all your sins for the priest, so I did, thinking sin, sin, sin, sin, sin! But, I came up with nothing. Like what sin, I am only a little girl still God? So, I made up some stuff to tell the priest; I could not see his smile but heard his laugh! Then, my sister died and I had some sins, well not my sins exactly- but mothers; she told me, she was now an atheist, I have no idea what that means God! But, I told the priest I was a heathen, yes holy priest sir- I have sinned 'cause; my whole family is a bunch of infidels, (I had looked up atheist in the dictionary!) ____________________________ November 29, 2018 Poetry/Verse/A Bunch Of Infidels Copyright Protected, ID 18-1089-736-01 All Rights Reserved. Thank you Line, LJ and Nina for visiting my poem with those great comments and congratulations, appreciate. The nuns in my school were a nasty bunch but I realize not all are like that, I truly think having to think up sins scarred my life somewhat.. after all, what sin can a child commit in reality ~

This is REALLY cute! And it shows so well that God and religion-- any religion, are not the same thing--something both many believers and all atheists don't seem to be aware of. Congrats on your win, Constance.

Constance, I am so pleased that you can now be "over the moon" with your nice placement in Anthony's contest! Very well done with a very powerful "outside the box" philosophy on atheism. Congrats on your win. Hugs, Sandra

Constance, I too was taught by nuns. Our school would go to confession by class once a month. I can remember having to "ponder" our sins before it was our classes turn. But the poor priests...they had to sit there all day as each class had their turn. I bet they could tell some stories of what they heard from some of the children... John

Andrea, thanks for visiting my poem and for the great comment, I found the theme a difficult one to wrap my head around but came up with this memory from childhood, so anyways, I seldom place with Anthony, so I would be over the moon if I do ~

oh I just love the way you did this one!! Very well done, clever dear. I have never won a contest with Anthony so I am not motivated to even do one, particulary on an atheist. I thought this was outstanding creativity doing it from a child's perspective.

No wonder the atheists think religious people are crazy with the kind of stuff you described here. haha

Thanks Victor and CayCay for visiting my poem and for the comments. Well Victor you are right not all nuns are bad, most are wonderful but in my catholic school there sure was some nasty ones, and CayCay, sadly this is based on the true story of my young life, one reason I am sort of not sure about my faith even now but I think I believe more than not believe. Sadly my mother never went back to the church, she felt betrayed by a God who would take her little girl so cruelly on a cold day~

Catholic schools did such cruel, scary things to children, other religions as well. I hope this isn't based on real life but I realize it very well might be. I couldn't write for the contest and this is probably the only entry I'll read, but it is full of emotion and expresses the mind of a child beautifully. Great job on the poem. All the best ... CayCay

Thank you Chris, Carolyn, and Kim for visiting my poem and for those great comments, it is based mostly on truth, the part about the mean nuns, the head on the desk thinking about sins, making up stuff for the priest and my mom loosing her faith, but she never imposed that on me, she let me make my decision regarding my faith...

This was great, I loved everything about this. The world through a child's eyes is so different and uncomplicated, even though some try to make it that way. Best of luck in the contest

It's really sad that small children feel they must make up sins to appease the church. But having gone to Catholic school, I can relate, Dear Heart. So sorry to hear how your Mom lost her faith after your sister died, but this is understandable. Bless you for sharing this touching piece! Best wishes in the contest, my friend. Hugs, Carolyn

Wow! Is there truth to this one? I love the innocence of the little girl. (I was brought up Catholic) Why do grownups thrust big ideas on little ones? And then there is my mom who said: I don’t know why I need to confess my sins to a priest and having read the bible myself told her that it says: there is only one mediator between man and God - Jesus Christ. Love your poem, Constance. fave!
