A Buck's Worth

A BUCK’S WORTH

Does the buck know his beauty?
(some would argue yes)
No matter
Unlike men, he is one with nature
Close to the earth
And using the teeming woods to advantage
Few men can know his freedom, his non-violent
      spirit
He breathes a fresher, more uplifting air
If he knows and loves, is charged by beauty
Then it is a different kind of love, a more
      pristine beauty
Does he dream?
Are his dreams of mountain, forest and stream?
Who can know
The visible wild is so uncomplicated
Methinks he dreams only of what fond nature
      offers
With no wish for change and free of fear

This is beautiful. A few years ago I found a baby deer and raised him on a bottle. As soon as he was able I set him free. Every so often I would see him and he would toss his head when I called.

Ah, to live in the peace this buck knows so well. There are no more comforting moments than those we experience while feeling "one with nature." I always felt this way fishing far offshore. Awesome poem, Daver! PS- Jameis was picked by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Soon he'll know what repetitive losses are like :D Love, Carolyn

Good day dear poet ! I am going to fave this write sir. I have read it three times thus far. Not because of a lack of understand, but because it took me back to the three years which I spent in the Cumberland Hills of Tenn. and we had a big ol' buck up there...14 tines for sure, that's what I counted my second year there. And this was before I knew much at all about dear, like when it shed it's rack, I thought that we also had a pretty big doe, lol. Great write my friend...have a wonderful weekend my dear friend.......much love, james
