Notes About The Poem

A Birthday Wish

I made a birthday wish one night
while blowing out my candles' light.
I wished my dad would let me get
a dog to keep as my own pet.

I looked for four-leaf clovers too
in hopes my wish would then come true.
On first stars of each night I made
the same wish, and of course I prayed!

The Christmas after I turned eight,
no longer did I have to wait,
for not just one or two, but THREE
cute dogs I saw beneath the tree.

it was a very big surprise.
I hardly could believe my eyes.
All of my wishing brought to me
three dogs named Billy, Jax, and Lee.

So very cute. Thus God answered your prayer. Instead of one, He gave you three. Congratulations on your top win, Andrea....

This is such a delightful read dear Andrea. What a wonderful gift this would be. I haven’t got a dog but hope to love one in the future as I do adore them! It's very nice to have wishes granted and especially when we are young and innocent. I'm glad this turns out the way it did for some. It's something to think about--how we treat children's wishes. We don't want to make spoiled brats, but we do want to give opportunities. Life is funny in this regard.

I have one dog and two cats. All are about 3 years old now. The cats are not as affectionate as I'd hoped for. They are ok, but i can't seem to find one like I had 20 years ago which was the perfect lap cat. Our Australian Shepherd dog is nice. She can be a bother at times, but she is very loving.

What a wonderful story, Andrea! These lines highlight the faith of a child, not childish, but made with the wise faith of a child's heart. Thank you for reminding me of the power of prayer and positive thinking! Sending you Christmas blessings of joy and gratitude!
