A Big Smile

a saraband

Big smile, laughter with a reason.
Clowns oft disguise their pain with mirth,
like the buffoon, Jackie Gleason.

Stand-up comics are risible;
Dick Van Dyke's stunts were visible.
Grimaldi of London was right -
"Grim all day" but funny at night

written June 17, 2017

risible means "arousing or provoking laughter"

My favorite sad clown, Red Skelton, brought out life's sadness through his humor. A well thought out poem that many of us can relate to.

Using humor to evoke anguish is an innovative task. Well done and thank you for your comments on my poem!

I can relate to this so much Reason not that I have 'pain' but I try to make other folks smile. No matter what is going on in my life (I wrote 11 funny poems 2 days before my dad died) I can write humour at a drop of a hat:-) hugs jan xx

Guess there's a bit of clown in most of us. Humor is a great way to deal with despair and pain, but is may be misunderstood by some folks. Thanks for the comment, Jan and have a super day reading and writing poetry.
