A Barrel Full of Soupers

A barrel full of monkeys could be a lot of fun,
Especially on a tropic island sitting in the sun.

A barrel full of soupers that would be a sight,
Not fun like monkeys when hurtful things they write.

Not all things we wish for can always come true,
I hope this poem gives you pause it's well overdue.

You soupers were a happy lot as far as I could see,
Now it seems you tease and taunt in your revelry.

Would that all were happy and loved their fellow man,
I wish that our poetic words followed this simple plan.

The joy I feel when I write a poem is a lovely thing,
I write my poetry for all to read without any sting.

To use your poetic talent to cause someone pain,
Is a spiteful horrid thing that I think quite profane.

If your heart has listened to all I had to say,
This will be the dawn of a new and happy day.

Hello, Shane. I like your message here. I guess it all boils down to our own motive each time we write. Good poem, Shane.

Hello dear Kim, See this is where i fail to understand my fellow soupers, I write to either cheer myself up when I am depressed or to try and make someone else happy. The only other time is when I perceive some sort of injustice that needs to be spoken about. Perhaps it is navety on my part. Still I would not do otherwise. Thanks for stopping in, I appreciate the visit. Love Shane xxx

Like you I suffered abuse from an early age and the physical abuse was eclipsed by the verbal abuse. It saddens me as well when I see people use their words to hurt another. Even when it is not initially intentional why would they keep a poem up if they knew it was hurtful?? Are people not more important???

Hi Richard, I agree people are more important than a poem, and should always be put first. Unfortunately some people have a gift for words and can use them to build or destroy. Vanity is i think the key as to which way the pendulum will swing with them. Thanks for the visit and support on this. Love Shane

Hello my friend, I sort of float about like Charles Laughton playing the Canterville ghost! However i am prompted upon occasion to dive in boots and all, so here I am for a while. Thanks for stopping in Andrea. Oh and I just wanted to say again how fab I think your poem "Delight is the night" is. love Shane xxx

WOW!! Wow, again, this is so very poetic and so very true. I have not been with poetry soup for long. But I do know someone here that has been hurt by a poet here. Words can be like a knife and cause extreme pain. You've definitely written a beautiful poem I'd like to print this off and email it to her if you let me. I always ask before I do anything? A 7 and a FAV... Theresa

Hi Theresa, Thanks for stopping in and for the kind words about my work. I know a few people who I care for who have left the site through what they interpret as harrasment. Now whether this is intentional or not is not really the point, the fact is people get hurt easily here. Of this we should all be aware and act accordingly, the site is meant for sharing and growth. And of course you may email the poem with my blessing. love Shane xxx

Hi Olive, Thanks for dropping in to visit my poetry. I have only been on the site since the end of December but I know what you mean about good people. Jan was my first friend and mentor here, you could not ask for a nicer person to introduce you to the site. Love Shane xxx
