A Cameo Appearance By Andrea Dietrich

It was not the mountains.. those that dwarf us, the forests that invited our senses...seduced us to stay. Nor the oceans whose mass we contained within us, creatures small and large...some we loved and others feared. Not, the floating rain, the clouds...kind or angry, the sky bright or blackboard black, the falling leaves or those who held on tight, the multiverse of colors sharp or flat. NOT...the seasons that in all their glory arrived  or stepped away as their sister or brother took the stage. Every inch of our untouched world chants to our sensibilities, the perfect candidate to rule our internal domain. Life in its all knowing way  has always bestowed us with gifts, unfolded miracles in our wake,  other times challenged us in a rage. Our world would take an eon to notate. Not, those particles...each made the whole, stirred our voices...drew from us...song. We, are only messengers. Our words not our own. Some call it passion, others magic, they also call it art. Some suggest it comes from the heart. Whatever you call it, this mystical harbinger who through us communicates... it is he, she, responsible for what we loosely term art. Poetry like all the arts...never began as such... rather it is integral to just being. IT is US...  just ask the lady with the pen and pad writing while driving her car... it is a part of our existence  ...it has always been. poets would write, even... if they lived in a vacuum.

Excellent poem in free verse, Maurice. You speak both for yourself and all those others who find pleasure, release and satisfaction in poetry writing. We have to deal with a muse whose visits are often unexpected and she can be docile yet forceful and impatient. Congrats on your fine win. // paul

It is so true, those last few lines!! A poet must write, ......it is not something which one can control it seems. Even without a pen, ....a poem can live in within the poet's mind, for no one else to see. :)

Janet Frame an Austrialian born arthur and poet was in her young life misdiagnoses with schizophrenia and institutionalized. She was so compelled to write that she took a rock and tried to write on the walls of the institution..She has some very interesting work..I enjoyed reading your work in response to Andrea's work..Thanks for the visit to my page..Sara

I ran out of room, Just wanted to say that I am so happy to be part of this poetic community. We are all artists here. Maybe not popular like singers or dancers, but in our own right, we love what we do and we will always find a way to do what we love. You really captured that well, my friend!! oh, and for sure, a fave!

Your poem spawned this one. This is a great community where poets can be inspired by other poets. Where the contests drive us to write poems we would never otherwise have written. My goal everyday is to fit in and when I can support a great write with deserved compliments. Fav poems I love or because I like the poets talent and my support might just be what they needed.

Oh, wow, how do i rate to deserve a cameo appearance in your awesome poetry, Maurice. I sure hope no cops are reading this. ahhaha. Seriously, I rarely write while driving. And I try to wait for a red light too!!! I'm SO bad. You captured so well the artist's need to just do what he has to do. I feel like I broke through a shell back in 2000 when I began writing poetry. All those years dormant, only having written in high school. And here YOU are, starting out just NOW . Look at how amazing!!!!

I love the humour here especially the cameo appearance of lovely Andrea writing whilst she drives. I'm more able to contain my 'ramblings' now but have to carry a note pad with me.... just in case inspiration hits. Hugs jan xxx

I take paper and pen with me when I shower, so far I just end up with a big mess. But maybe as my writing skills develop it will improve.
