Shlomo was King Solomon's actual name... He had 700 wives... 'Lay' is a medieval octosyllabic poetic form, six to sixteen lines long.

King Shlomo was a real smart man He built the Temple per God's plan They say he penned "The Song of Songs" Such brilliance should have lasted long But was he really truly wise What need had he for all those wives Iambic Tetrameter

I admit, I am too chicken to attempt one of these. Great write, was he really that wise? I mean 700 wives? I am certain that even for a king, clothes and shoes, not to mention makeup, had to dip rather deeply into his pockets. 700? That could not have made for a quiet, peaceful house.

Yes, it's a wonder we say Wise-Alec instead of Wise-Sol. No matter how wealthy Solomon was, how could he stand the noise?! :) gw

Ha, ha. I'm staying a step ahead of you here. I'm ready to plunder The Song by the Red Sea (in the Book of Exodus), as well as Moses' poetry at the end of his life in Deuteronomy. Think/Act fast! :) gw

699 too many if you ask me too. Good grief! Even if you had one for cooking, one for cleaning, one for driving, one for laundry, one for the lawn work, one to clean out the garage, one for holding your hand, one for kissing, and one for turning the TV set on and off, that is only nine wives.

690 wives to go, Caren. Sounds like a new meal at the carry-out window at a fast-food restaurant, eh?! :) gw

You never know, perhaps it wasn't only King Solomon who needed all those wives, perhaps they 699 needed each other as well - just a thought! Hugs, Jennifer.

Maybe all those wives did get along, although I've seen commentators who wrote that they warred with each other. Can you imagine the din in Solomon's courtyards?!! Whoa! Thanks for the comment, Jennifer. ~ gw

You know, there are some very smart decisions attributed to Solomon---like the one where he threatened to cut a baby in half to determine who its real mother was...she screamed---but taking all those wives. What was he thinking? So in the end, you're right, Sand! :) gw
