4th Useful Tip For Anxiety Attack
Scan from object to object.
(anchor yourself in the now)
Choose any object in the room.
Hold your full attention on the object for ten seconds - take in every single detail of it;
Look at the texture, look at the shape, and look at the colours of the object, all while counting silently from one to ten.
When the ten seconds are up, instantly move your focus to another object and fully scan it with your attention for another 10 seconds (just like before) scanning slowly up and down, left to right - taking note of every texture, shape and detail, without mentally labelling anything.
Next move your attention to another object, and repeat the ten second scanning process as previous.
Repeat this practice over and over, as many times as needed until the hurricane subsides.
This could be described as anchoring your self in the now.
By holding your attention on an object that is in front of you - you are holding your focus and attention in the now. This is healing to say the least... By also counting from one to ten internally - this stops unwanted thoughts from interrupting the process... a sort of mantra.
Unwanted feelings should dissolve a while later than the thoughts. Anchor your self in the now until then - 'in a storm, look for the objects.'
You could even choose to keep an object with you for this purpose, like a chrystal, a picture, or some type of prayer beads. Anything to remind you that you have this technique at your disposal should you need it.
You don't need to though , thats just an idea; objects are everywhere - Paintings on your wall are good - as there is a lot of detail to scan through with the attention, if the paintings are colourful and positive thats even better; but anything you can see in front of you will do fine.
If your in nature, you could scan from tree to tree, if your stuck in traffic - you could scan from car to car, you get the idea... If you struggle with ten seconds, start with five seconds per object, then work your way up...
Another important thing to remember, is that an anxiety attack (Overwhelming feelings, usually of imminent death and terror) are always temporary - and will NEVER stay for good -
Millions of people are going similar struggles allover the world right now, You are not alone. It is okay to be afraid.. it is a scary ride! Panic attacks are fleeting in nature though, and they certainly will not last... be brave;
I hope this helps... ?? best of intentions - U.P
