33 Rpm

because so it is,
he says

ashtray's empty
and
Dolly Parton
cries
for
Jolene
spinning dizzy
in the
corner

in my mind
all words
leave the
paper

love laid to rest,
I can
recognize
the
smell.

Ahhh, another impacted ending! The smell of love varies upon who is sniffing its value. Wonderfully done!

Hi Robert, thank you always! I tried to capture the mood in the whole relationship, without saying too much about it. I appreciate you took the time to read and leave me feedback! :)

wow, this is so succinctly done,it very effectively gives the tone of ending a relationship. I love the image of the spinning record. Loved the Jolene song!! I bet some of the younger generation don't even GET the part about "spinning dizzy" hahaha. I have students who never saw record players OR dial phones before. GREAT job.

Hi Andrea, thanks so much for your comment! You pretty sum it all up. :) I love Jolene too, and it's lyrics was very fitting for this relationship. The title is from this playing of the song ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doz1QJ7LwjA where the record is slowed down to 33 rpm, it sounds like blues almost, also fitting the mood. And yes, Jolene was not the only one dizzy in the room, my mind too. :)

Thank you, for considering my comment to be okay. I did not want to draw a wrong premise, without asking first.. Linda

Gry, this is an interesting take, on free verse. may I ask what the smell is? I'm interested in reading this poem again. Is it a divorce or something? I did enjoy... Linda
