Notes About The Poem

Happy New Year!

2026

I’m fighting sleep like Muhammad Ali
Was up so late that it was early
Was listening to music new and old
New Years Eve filled with glitter gold

I was drunk on piano melodies soft
Guitar solos lift your heart high as loft
Song words like hors d oeuvres for my ears
Eating feeding my soul through the years

2025 has left the room by moon
2026 is like a red flower bloom
Opening my eyes with anticipation
A year of hopes and toasts celebration

Those lines featuring 2025 and 2026 are really great, Karen. ... Leaving the room by moon. I like that... Better than how 2025 left my room -- by boom, boom, boom. It being Chicago, I didn't know if it was shooting or fireworks. Turned out to be a little of each. Heh-heh.

Beautiful Rhyme with optimistic feel, Karen ! I love the mention of Mohammed Ali in line 1 : sets the tone for strength & endurance which this year calls for. This line is clever : “Song words like hors d oeuvres for my ears” Eat well, sleep well, be well. Xx
