2017's Passing
As far as years go , it wasn't the best
and I , for one, am glad to lay it to rest.
Too many we loved, we lost somehow,
so time to say farewell to the old year now.
Oh please be kind, New Year, we all pray.
Don't take any more of our loved ones away.
A year off from sadness would be welcome here
but it will probably be more of the same we fear.
Too many lost, too much grief to bear.
We pray in this new year, that better we'll fare.
No death , no sadness, a little reprieve.
No new souls lost for which we must grieve.
We say goodbye to the year and we hope
that there'll be less sadness with which we must cope.
Off you go now old year, your time here is done
as the clock strikes twelve and the new has begun.
