I Was Too Young To Understand - Poem by Sunshine Smile

He let me see his scars, they was as deep as a bottomless ocean Every day his demons played to dance Like salt in the wounds, a pitiful truth The dark voices he heard in the shadows It was not an illusion, he had heard them for as long as he could remember A pain so unbearable and a horror that stuck in his soul He had no power to go in the hurricane's gust of wind The weight bowl was rocking ... not strong enough to handle it A deep and confidential conversation between him and me I could feel the powerlessness and the fear to say or do anything which could make the situation worse Was it enough to just be there ... show respect ? At the same time accept the powerlessness Reality had to exist somewhere It requires courage to prove weak He took his life two days later, abrupt and brutal A choice between the demons and the deep blue ocean The raindrops played a somber melody Where was the light when everything got dark ? In the days that followed, I cried ... until the well was dried I was too young to understand Rest in peace my friend 06/02/2020 Sun :) - A-L Andresen Copyright © All Rights Reserved

This is so sad. I've had family members commit suicide and know your pain somewhat... so so sad. God bless you. You did a wonderful job with the words. Powerful - penetrating the heart. God bless you sweet friend. Love, Gina

This is a beautiful heartfelt narrative, Anne-Lise. So sad! Was it enough to just be there ... so hard to answer, and as you say, you were 'too young to understand'. Happy weekend & Hugs // paul

Wow Sunshine Smile what a gem - and how sad - one of our relations lost their son suddenly and abruptly about 2 years ago - he committed suicide and to this day they don't know why, he just left a note I love you Mom and Dad - he was 20 years old - he gassed himself in his car. I couldn't believe it when they called to tell us. Blessings and hugs dear friend. Jenny.

Suicide among children and adolescents is much more common than people think, dear Jenny - I wrote a poem for him "- The Barents Sea -" 08.05.2018- Sindre, only 19 years old ... jumped into the sea - alone at night guard on the Kystvakt W320 - Thank you so much for your comments :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

That is very sad. But in truth suicide is a reality and we may not be able to help. Some thing we cannot change. I lost two friends to it, one quick in an instant and the other by protracted usage of pills and alcohol. I am proud that as a doctor I never lost a patient who was in my active care, but I guess that involved a lot of luck. Suicide also runs in my wife's family. It is what it is. Best wishes to you, Kai

So very sad. We cannot help someone like this. Give them the suicide hotline number. Get out of their way. Sounds cold but suicide hotline people are trained in listening. I am not. I get drawn into their story. I, too, experienced friends suicide three times..and I did not know what to do. I Think all countries have these numbers. Love poems with the Poet in it. Panagiota xx

- This happened many, many years back, Panagiota - Few people talked about such feelings ... it was a shame - There was no suicide hotline number to call - Besides, many did not have a phone - Thank you so much for your comments :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

A tragic verse Anne, so well written, sadly many suffer that way and can't see light at the end of the tunnel and for them the only escape is suicide. Good luck. Tom
