(our) Hallelujah
****Note: this is a personal version of lyrics I wrote for Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.
Way up high etched in a rock,
young and in love they left their mark.
A simple equation with no answer, no resolution.
Witnessed again by another two,
Divided now, but the math still true
The addition of you a timeless hallelujah.
Your departure complete by a letter sent
My attempts to reconnect end up in shreds
Was it strength or fear that kept me from getting to you?
My thoughts echo in the places I hide,
the kind of man I could be, with you by my side.
For better or worse an unknown hallelujah.
Connecting in ways I can't comprehend
Wanting to say it in each message I send
Take me in your arms and tell me it will be all right soon.
Now and again our paths may cross
Elation must yield to yet one more loss.
The ebb and flow of an unspoken hallelujah.
