Mother’s Day, a day we should all remember and give thanks and praise for their loving inspiration and forgiveness to those who were not. God will cleanse all hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. The following is my Mother’s Day Linking Pin Sonnet:
Dedication: A Tribute to Mothers with Heavenly Grace
For Mother’s Day and Beyond
This sonnet is dedicated to every mother whose spirit echoes the divine—those whose prayers rise like incense and whose touch mirrors the warmth of heaven. In each whispered lullaby, each tear-stained night, and each silent sacrifice, mothers embody the boundless grace of God.
Crafted in the Linking Pin Sonnet form—my poetic invention where each line’s end becomes the next line’s beginning—this piece symbolizes the unbroken chain of love, wisdom, and strength passed from mother to child and generation to generation.
May this poetic tribute bless the hearts of mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and all who have mothered with faith, courage, and compassion. Your legacy is eternal, your influence divine.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Heaven's Touch: A Mother's Day Linking Pin Sonnet
By Dr. Joseph S. Spence Sr.
Love births life with a whispering breath of grace,
Grace flows from mothers, heaven’s dwelling place.
Place where prayers rise from lips in sacred song,
Song of faith and hope that makes weak hearts strong.
Strong arms hold dreams while rocking them to rest,
Rest in her care, each trial becomes a test.
Test of pure love, enduring through each night,
Night wrapped in her tears and God’s guiding light.
Light in her soul reflects the Lord above,
Above all fear, she shields with endless love.
Love is her law, her calling, and her crown,
Crown of creation, where peace trickles down.
Down through her hands, flows mercy from on high—
High is the place where mothers touch the sky.
Author’s Notation: Linking Pin Sonnet was invented by Joseph S. Spence Sr. (Me), while studying English literature, creative writing, African diaspora, Japanese linguistics, and mythology at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, on January 15, 2007. It consists of 14 lines of eight to eleven syllables. The end of each line links with the next. The concept is based on the leadership principle of accomplishing an organization’s task. Strengthening organizational echelons at each level comes by connecting each element with a linking pin leadership, thus obtaining maximum productivity in its goal’s completion. One should also set the links in a bicycle chain moving it forward. Visualize each linking pin connecting to the next ensuring strength and safety, moving every adjoining part to reach maximum potential in mission accomplishment. Additionally, the linking pin sonnet resonates with two lovers on the same sheet of music linking together, singing the same song, moving in the same direction, strengthening each other, overcoming obstacles, reaching their goals, and achieving success and victory. This is the practice of “Jumping the Broom” at an African American wedding.
